New York City Area High School and College Students: Enter Now for the Second Annual "10 Under 20: Young Innovators to Watch" Award Competition Honoring STEAM Applications
Brightest Young Digital Minds to be Recognized by Tech Influencers During Prestigious CE Week Event on June 23, 2016
Application Deadline is May 31, 2016

NEW YORK, April 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- What do an app designed to stop school bullying, a closed-captioning head wearable, a fingerprint device to protect your digital money, and a science kit subscription service for kids have in common?  They are all innovative technologies that were developed by New York City students under the age of 20 and winners of last year's inaugural 10 Under 20 award. CE Week is searching for the next group of students to join this esteemed group of digital innovators and officially announces the second annual "10 Under 20: Young Innovators to Watch" award competition to support and highlight New York City's high school and college students at the forefront of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) innovation.

"Today's digital kids are our future and they are already taking the stage as technological innovators," said Robin Raskin, founder of the 10 Under 20 award competition.  "It's important that we reward students early and often for their outstanding work.  Recognitions such as 10 Under 20 reinforce their decision to remain active in technology."

Ten student winners (individuals or groups may apply) will be honored for their outstanding achievements in tech innovation at this year's CE Week, one of New York City's most prominent consumer technology events, on June 23, 2016.  In addition to this incredible honor and invaluable exposure in front of some of the most influential professionals in the technology industry, each winner will also receive a scholarship and prize package valued at $1,000 from the award's sponsors.

"By using CE Week's platform to present these awards, we are recognizing New York City as the home of CE Week and inviting our exhibitors to partake," said Eric Schwartz, President/CRO – Consumer Technology, NAPCO Media.

In 2015, 10 deserving students or student groups representing high schools and colleges across all five of New York City's boroughs were honored at the inaugural 10 Under 20 competition. Their winning projects included everything from robots to apps, from security devices to microtubes, and cover areas as diverse as home automation, health, special needs and social networking.

2015 10 Under 20 award recipient Daniil Frants, student at Dwight School, Manhattan, encourages students to enter this year's competition: "The 10 Under 20 awards were a great step forward in the development of my Live Time Closed Captioning System project, as winning led to further recognition and opportunities for development. These awards are an excellent opportunity to showcase young innovators' projects."

Other 10 Under 20 winners have gone on to Ivy League schools, formed active hacker clubs in low income areas and developed commercially available products.

Eligibility: Students ages 13 through 19, currently enrolled in high school or a two or four year accredited college or university in the five boroughs of New York City or permanent New York City residents who are either enrolled in high school or a two or four year accredited college or university elsewhere in the United States are eligible to participate.

Entries may include, but are not limited to, web apps, mobile apps, data visualizations or visualization tools, social games, or products considered a component of the "internet of things," which may include wearable technology and tech-enabled consumer products. Projects may have been developed as a result of school, extracurricular or outside-of-school activities, including hackathons, community events, consulting projects or entrepreneurial activities.

How to Enter: Beginning today, students can enter the 2016 10 Under 20 award competition using the simple online application.

Deadline: Applications will be accepted up until May 31, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. EST.

How Winners Are Chosen: From all eligible entries, 10 winners will be selected by a panel of esteemed judges, including educators and technology experts.  Winning entries must demonstrate exceptional creativity, user design, scalability, civic mindedness and exemplify an application of STEAM and related fields.

Award Ceremony: Winners will be presented their awards live on stage at a special event during CE Week 2016.  The ceremony, which is open to the media, will take place on June 23rd at the Metropolitan Pavilion (125 West 18th Street) in New York City from 4 to 5 p.m. EST.
